You can take the SAT as much as you want, but as college counselors we generally recommend no more than two or three times.
The SAT was not created as a test to improve your abilities. The SAT is supposed to be more like a one time gauge to check your academic competency.
Most colleges will take your highest combined scores from the two or three tests. If you take it more than three times it looks too suspicious and that you are trying to “game” the system.
Colleges want academically competent students and not just studying robots.
With this in mind please do not enter the exams as something you are going to cancel. It is best to be prepared register for the test and then do well, instead of repeating an unnecessary cycle of always “studying” for the SAT.
Besides there are far greater things in life than taking a SAT test.

Yes, but it is highly unlikely you will receive a refund.
You can cancel any SAT exam and they will not penalize you for it. It’s best not to register at all if you are not planning on taking the test, as it takes a spot from someone else.

Hey guys,
As much as I would like to have the control of the College Board, simply said I don’t.
The best way is to always contact the College Board Directly- as I do not have the power or authority over any of the stuff, except limited power ON test day.
So if you want to avoid this, check College Board Customer Service Center at +1-212-713-7789 or find the email address on their website and stop being lazy.

You can find the original information here:
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/testday/standby.html
I’ve pasted the information below, because people keep asking me.
Standby Testing
If you miss the late registration deadline, you may be able to take the SAT as a standby. Test centers accept standbys in the order of their arrival, only if they have enough space, testing materials, and staff—so there is no guarantee that you’ll be admitted to the test. You will not be admitted until all preregistered test-takers have been seated.
Instructions
To be considered for standby testing, please be present at the test center on test day before 7:45 a.m. You must include payment of a standby fee in addition to the regular fee for the test or tests you wish to take.
To register as a standby, be sure to:
- Fill out the Registration Form completely, and fill in the oval for the Standby Fee; otherwise, your scores will be delayed.
- Include payment for the test fee, plus the additional standby fee. Payment must be a check, money order, or credit card. Do not enclose cash. Checks and money orders should be made payable to “The College Board.”
- Seal the completed form and payment TOGETHER in the envelope.
- Place the appropriate label showing the test month on the envelope.
- Bring the envelope to the test center and give it to the supervisor before you test.
- Bring an acceptable photo ID.
Note: If you have an approved SSD Eligibility Code for 50 percent extended time (the only SSD accommodation offered on a standby basis), you must bring a copy of your Eligibility Approval Letter.
We cannot guarantee that space or materials, including extra blank Registration Forms, will be available.
Please don’t call test supervisors for information about standby testing, since they do not know until test day if there will be room to admit you as a standby tester.
Exceptions
Students taking Language Tests with Listening cannot test as standbys. Students testing in Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria or Togo cannot test as standbys.

The SAT Subject Test (formerly known as: SAT IIs) is a test to measure your knowledge and application of the subject.
- You need to check if the specific college you are applying requires them.
- The prestigious universities generally require two to three.
- Some universities require certain specific subject tests (e.g. Mathematics).
- You must find out and take the subject tests accordingly to your potential universities. You can do the research for each individual university on your own. Sometimes you don’t have to take any subject tests.
- The SAT Subject tests are graded on a curve.
In regards for taking the Korean SAT Subject test, I highly advise against it unless you are non-native speaker of Korean. You want to demonstrate your ability to learn new material, not rehash or flaunt your native Korean ability.
If you have any questions always feel free to email me.

As the SAT Supervisor at our school. I’d like to inform our students to quickly register for the November test at our school.
Remember to take initiative and register quickly.
Space is limited and October is already full. If you wait too late, you will not have an opportunity to take the SAT exams.

As English as your second language for many of the Korean students it’s difficult to read passages for the SAT exam. The SAT is an timed exam therefore every second counts. You can improve your reading skills by speed reading. You can find more about it by doing a Google search.
You can also use free online tools like Spreeder to improve your speed reading skills. I started at about 600/wpm, but now I’m at around 1000-1500/wpm. You can improve too. Let me know how this helps you.
