I hope that all of you know that college is only four years of your life (assuming you graduate as a usual person), which also is approximately five percent of your life assuming you live till 80- Hey we all die some time.
Another website that provides great information about your dream job you can check a sample below:
1. Get your undergrad degree at a physical university. 90% of what you learn the first 4 years out of high school will not be in the classroom. It is often painfully obvious if a 24 year old has been to college–not by their intelligence, but by their social skills.
11.Never Stop Learning. The world is not going to stay the same and neither should you. It takes a conscious effort to acquire new skills for the rest of your life if you want to stay on top. Take advantage of distance education, but don’t overlook other non-classroom types of training. Working with someone you really admire can be even more educational than spending a semester in a classroom.

If you don’t know what a wiki is do a search on the internet and find out. In fact it may be a good idea to participate in one, for extracurricular activities.
There are plenty of great resources on the internet.
One thing I find myself doing is a lot of reading and web surfing. There is just too much information out in the world so here are some convenient resources for you to use for your educational desires.
If you have any other recommendations either use the comments or email me.

The Department of International Exchange went to Ewha Girl’s Foreign Language High School for their school seminars. There was about 100 or so people there most of them being parents…
I want to stress that college admission officers want to talk to STUDENTS and not as much parents. They like to see proactive students willing to take the risks necessary to talk to them. I understand most of you had mid-term exams to prepare for, but it may have been good to go at least to make contact with these people. It leaves a far more positive mark on the admission officers when you go and visit them personally. There is also a small chance that you can leave a good impression on them, which will benefit you in the future.
Here are some candid notes I took while their presentation.
University of Chicago
- They want students to participate in campus/college life
- University of Chicago has the most Nobel Prize winners
- They want students to want to think in many different ways
- Students who will want to learn from conversation classes
- Financial Assistance is need aware
- They support a “house” system- If you do not know what this is go to their website and find out.
Dartmouth
- Has their own skiing area
- They have something unique called the Dartmouth Plan, which provides special flexibility for interning
- Dr. Seuss – Graduated from Dartmouth and his real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel
- They want academic power houses but also to contribute to their school in some way
- Must become valued community members
Duke
- Open to new ideas and want flexibility
- Focus program and loves Interdisciplinary
- They have an island for Marine Biology
- They have national champions in Math, Basketball, and Women’s Golf
- They want Creative people
Stanford
- Companies like Yahoo, GPS, and Google came from Stanford
- They want entrepreneurial and creative students
- They want students with passion and will create new knowledge
- They want collaborative students
- All residential campus
- Ultimately wants students to think “Can I picture myself here?”
Wellesley
- Has unique Distribution Requirements
- All women college
Yale
- Wants LEADERSHIP and Friendship
- Must “Do everything well,” “Follow basic instincts,” and “Everybody loves you”
- Amazing libraries
- Need blind
- Genuine concern for the world
In summary all of these colleges want…
- Academically Bright
- Sincere
- Creative
- Courageous
- Open Minds
- To show your passion and what’s important about you
- Plan a route and follow through and let them know about it.
Competition for these schools are incredibly fierce, but all you can do is give them your best shot and see what happens.

Financial Aid is a big issue for students and parents. There are many opportunities and scholarships out there. I strongly encourage you to apply to as many of them as you can.
Here are the requirements for the Carpe Diem Foundation of Illinois.
- You may apply for the scholarship if you are a U.S. citizen who will be a new or continuing undergraduate student attending a U.S. accredited educational institution in the Fall of 2007. You do not have to be an Illinois resident.
- This is an extremely competitive scholarship program. Eighteen scholarships were granted in 2006.
- The scholarship is merit based. You qualify based upon your achievements up to this point, and based upon what you expect to accomplish to leave the world a better place than you found it.
It may only help a handful of you as not Korean students have US Citizenship. I’ll continue to post scholarship opportunities as they arise. Go to the website for more details.

I’ve become a voracious reader for the last couple of years. I strongly recommend students reading books, articles, newspapers, and blogs.
I’m subscribed to several RSS Feeds and I encourage you to subscribe to ones you are interested. RSS is like getting the internet emailed to you. I’ll do another post on this subject another time.
One feed that I have deals with personal development they had a list of quotes about education.
Here are a few of my favorite:
It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.
Epictetus
You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.
Clay P. Bedford
Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
Mark Twain
The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.

Here’s a blurb from their site:
Zinch exists to extract the wealth of potential in today’s high school students. Through Zinch, students are empowered to showcase their greatness to colleges and universities as an invitation for recruitment.
I encourage you to sign up and try it out and definitely sign up for their scholarship programs.

I’m still very green in the world of college counseling. That’s why I try to get as much help from the people around me as possible with the internet- we now have the power to leverage information from millions of people around the world.
Thankfully many counselors use the internet and post great information. I’ll be posting links from places that can also help students in the world of college counseling.
http://www.admissionsadvice.com/
Eventually I’ll get around to reviewing them, but for the time being search around and check out their sites.
